Prizewinning composer/pianist John Alan Rose has performed his own music twice in winners concerts at Carnegie Hall and received prizes in international piano competitions as both pianist and composer (Toronto International Piano Competition, Ibla International Piano Competition, Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition).
While already a serious pianist as a teenager, it was his original compositions that attracted the most attention from audiences and performers alike, and Rose has since then preferred playing mostly his own compositions in concert. He was awarded full scholarships to more than one university after playing his own piano compositions for pianists such as Ursula Oppens, Jerome Rose and Robert Mayerovitch. Pianists Stephen Hough, Frederic Chiu and Andras Haefliger have played and praised his works.
He has also given lecture-concerts of his own piano music in venues such as the Berklee School of Music in Boston. He was commissioned to compose incidental music to "The Crucible," "My Three Angels" and "The Miser" by Louis Burke, director of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Theater in Stratford, Connecticut.
John Rose is the 2007 winner of the International "Master Works" Competition for ERM Recording. His composition will be recorded by ERM and performed by the Prague Symphony Orchestra, with distribution by Naxos.
In addition to his music, Mr. Rose has also devoted the last seven years to healing work, and is a certified Reiki Master.
