After his debut in 1994 with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Romanian violinist Florin Croitoru was acclaimed by the Austrian press as a “Phenomenal soloist,” mastering a “perfect technique.” He has performed in countless recitals or concerts in more than 20 different countries, from Europe, Asia, Africa and the United States. He has also won 11 prizes in different international music competitions, including, in 1992, the first prize at the “Fritz Kreisler” competition in Vienna, becoming the first Romanian violinist distinguished with this prestigious award.

Florin Croitoru’s playing has been described as “emanating a great musicality,” in Le Soir Belgium, and as possessing an absolute freedom and conviction, in the Pretoria News of South Africa. In Il Secolo Italy, he was described as an “absolute master of the instrument, with a playing of rare intensity.”

Mr. Croitoru has also made recordings and broadcasts for various Romanian, Italian, French, Austrian, Japanese and American Radio and TV stations.

After 1985, when Florin Croitoru performed for the first time as a soloist, his enormous talent received national acknowledgment. Today his name is immediately associated with first class performance and talent at the national as well as international level.

Florin Croitoru performed in recitals at Chatelet Theatre (Paris), the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), in Milan, Bergamo, Brescia, Torino (Italy), Hamamatsu, Kagoshima, Chofu (Japan), California, Cape Cod, Boston, New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington D.C (USA), Budapest (Hungary), and of course, Romania.

Mr. Croitoru received his degree from the prestigious Music University of Bucharest where he studied mostly with Mr. Stefan Gheorghiu, a former student of David Oistrakh and George Enesco. From 1994 until 1995, after establishing himself in the U.S., Florin Croitoru worked with Mr. Victor Danchenko, also a former student of Oistrakh.

His CD recordings include a live recital with pianist Samuel Sanders, recorded in 1997 under the auspices of “Cape & Islands Chamber Music Festival”, and a World Premiere CD, entitled The Three Violinists (inspired by The Three Tenors), recorded in 1998 with Emil Israel Chudnovsky (Russia/USA) and Andrew Haveron (Great Britain).

Presently, Mr. Croitoru spends most of his time in his native country, due to implementing his Ph.D research, (concluded in 2003) on a new method of teaching violin. Since 1999, he has been teaching at the National Music University in Bucharest.

As future projects, Florin Croitoru intends to continue an international tour performing Niccolo Paganini’s 24 Caprices for solo violin and to record the second volume of The Three Violinists CD.
