Considered by critics as one of the most interesting European guitarists on the international scene, Flavio Cucchi has given hundreds of recitals in America, Europe, Asia and Australia in addition to participating in radio and TV shows for some of the biggest world-wide broadcasting corporations such as, BBC, RAI, ZDF, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Televisa Mexico, Television Corporation of Singapore, Radio Praga, and others. He is also very active in the domain of chamber music, and has played the world premiere of Sestina d'Autunno by Petrassi and many modern masterpieces as Boulez “Marteau sains maitre” at the Scala di Milano, Henze's “Cimarron” etc. He has also participated in several operas by Bussotti and Berio, among others. Many composers such as Alvaro Company, Nuccio D'Angelo, Anthony Sidney, Oliviero Lacagnina, and recently Chick Corea, have been inspired to write for Flavio. It can thus be said that he has contributed to enriching the repertoire of classical guitar. Since 1986, Flavio Cucchi is professor of guitar at the Conservatorio Mascagni of Livorno and has held Masterclasses at: Gendai Guitar – (Tokyo-Japan), Indiana University (Bloomington - USA), Texas Tech University (Lubbok - USA), Arizona State University (Phoenix - USA), Universidad Autonoma de Mexico (Mexico City – Mexico, UDLA (Puebla – Mexico), Universidad Veracruzana (Vera Cruz - Mexico) and other musical organizations in Europe and Asia. He has often been a jury member at important international competitions, such as the ARD competition in Munich, Concurso, M. Ponce, Mexico City, E. Pujol, Sassari, among others. Recently, the 1994 American Pulitzer Prize Poet, Yusef Komunyakaa , dedicated his “Ode to the guitar” to Flavio Cucchi, which was presented at the Genova International Festival of Poetry, in June 2004. |
